Ferdinand Phinizy II (1819-1889) was born in Oglethorpe County (Georgia). He first married Harriett Hays Bowdre and had eight children with her. He later married Anne S. Barrett and had three additional children. He graduated from UGA (class of 1838), moved to Augusta and entered the cotton trade with the company Phinizy and Clayton.
